Favorite of the local Austin music scene, playing their eclectic and innovative renditions of the classic repertoire of Cuban Son, Colombian Cumbia and Mexican Bolero and Ranchera. This exciting and passionate Afro-Latin music ensemble is led by vocalist, Conguero and Bongocero Rey Arteaga, who has co-founded or played in some of the best Latin bands in Austin over the last twenty years and is comprised of some of the most talented and experienced musicians in Austin, with Russell Scanlon on lead guitar.

Come listen to the wonderful Nuevo Flamenco and Salsa music of Sonido Sol.

Sonido Sol is an Austin, Texas based Latin Fusion band of Spanish Flamenco tradition with Afro-Cuban rhythms- all underscored with snappy loops that push the Sonido Sol dance vibe. Front-man and virtuoso guitarist Hector Vasquez writes original compositions and sings in Spanish. Percussionist Danny Mendoza charges the music with powerful conga rhythms that reflect extensive study in R&B, Jazz, and Afro-Cuban styles. The combination makes for and enticing mixture of Nuevo Flamenco & Salsa sounds.

Felipe Borrero is currently working with several projects; “The Brew”, “Kiko y La Banda”, “Rey Arteaga w/Son y No Son”, and Mambo Blue. He also founded and is a manager/player with the following projects "Big Band Tejano", "Trio 2 to 1", "Salsa Amistad", "Trio4mas" and "Tiburon". He currently has over 100 recordings to his credit playing trumpet, trombone, flugelhorn, hand percussion and background vocals.
